  • A brilliant versatile recorder that fulfills my every need.

We use this amazing little device with a Rode NTG-2 microphone. It will record parallel tracks at different volumes, just in case you peak higher than expected. This has saved so much time because I no longer have to ask an actor to do another take because their voice peaked too high, I just cut to the quieter track. Quickly you realise that using internal batteries to power it is a silly idea. Even high yield batteries don't last very long. Instead we use a 50,000 mAh powerbank which we connect to the mini USB port. We once left it recording all night, and we'd used perhaps one tenth of the power in the powerbank. Another feature it has is its 'WIDE' function. You can narrow the field of the microphone to remove unwanted background noise. Oddly though the control seems backwards, ...

  • Perfect for professional shoots, lightweight and quick to set up

A lightweight, compact, robust (so far!) unit that mounts easily beneath a camera. The design, with the screen tilted upwards, is perfect for allowing the cameraperson to keep an eye on levels. Alternatively, it can sit near the interviewer/presenter just out of shot and they can monitor their own levels. Relatively easy to learn and very quick to set up - ideal for "gun and run" shooting as it only adds perhaps 2 minutes to setup time (and that includes checking the wireless mics are working). The weight is especially important as every extra bit added to an already heavy pile of equipment means more weight for a two, three (or sometimes one!) person to carry. This hasn't sacrificed weight for durability, however, and it will withstand most reasonable use.

  • High performing, modest costing.

Compact, well featured, keenly priced and good quality pre-amps make it a huge step up from internal DSLR audio.

  • I was torn between this and a zoom h6.

As the title reads I went back a forth so many times but I finally settled on the Tascam and I haven't looked back. We use it to record a podcast and the sound is impeccable when comparing to the substantially more bulky former way of doing it through a mixer then into a Scarlett 2i2 then into a pc. Highly recommend this piece of hardware
