I had no reservations about purchasing a Hofner assembled in the Orient. The CT series has German parts plus an inner tone block which makes it heavier than the German and Ignition Hofners...but adds sustain which the hollow bodies are a bit short of. Build quality is VERY good. I have two German Hofner Club basses and two German 500/1 'Beatle' basses and the Contemporaries are, by far, the value leaders here. Nothing is missing except the "Made in Germany" stamp...and about $1600 additional lightness to the wallet!

I got it because the 10 lb basses were hurting my back .It only weighs 6.3 lbs and I love the tone . Easier to play than a long scale . Strings get a little floppy when tuned to Eb . For the most part I love it !

Only a few days ago, I purchased a New Hofner 'Ignition' CLUB Bass. While it sports a beautiful 3-Colour 'burst AND Pearloid headstock inlay, it doesn't hold a candle (?) to the slightly more expensive - in this particular 'Demo' purchase situation - 'Contemporary', or 'CT', Club Bass. Although the subdued two-tone 'burst finish isn't as eye-catching as on the 'Ignition' Club Bass, EVERYTHING else is far superior. The Sound Block ( inside the Body ) helps both the Voicing of the Upgraded Pickups (!) as well as the sustain; and without the 'hollow-body-howl' of the Ignition model. The Neck is a three-piece structure, and the Fingerboard is nicely bound. Once adjusted, the Neck stays where you want it ( this, depending on how much 'bow' you care for ). Also, the 'CT' series are shipped with a Hard Case; although this is irrelevant to the ultimate Playability and Sound. There's no way I can justify the expense of a 'real' Hofner Bass, regardless of body style ( $2500 +/- ), but if you're looking for a truly GOOD, less expensive version of this historic Merseyside Instrument, you'll be glad that you searched for your best deal on the 'CT' series Hofner Bass.Read full review

Great tone and short scale playing ease. Original Hofner round wound strings were too floppy. Put on a set of Rotosound flat wounds. It is a joy to play!
